REPAIRS TO GOTHIC
Completion In Week Likely
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Aug. 26.
Repairs to the Gothic were half-completed and the ship should be ready to sail for Britain at the end of next week, the New Zealand manager of Shaw Savill (Mr M J. Smith) said tonight. Nearly all the equipment to be installed in the liner, which was severely damaged by fire on August 2, had arrived in Wellington, Mt Smith said.
Testing of the new radio equipment had been completed, and installation would begin immediately, he said. The bridge decking had been relaid, and the master’s cabin and much of the accommodation completed. The ship’s galley was now working and the crew were living on board, he said.
