German Week

Sir,—“Quercus” clearly does not believe many citizens support his views, or he would not hide under an anonymous name. We wanted to put the spotlight on a Common Market country (a trading area of great importance to New Zealand) when we planned German Week. We also hoped to demonstrate that the World War II scars were healed. Does “Quercus” think the families of Jaycees were not involved? We planned publicly to show ourselves and Germany that, while we have not forgotten the war, at least it is past and does hot interfere with present friendships. One of our pleasures has been the discovery that so many Germans are living productively with us. If "Quercus” would contact me I would like to introduce him to some of them—for though he may not believe It, they are just like us!—and to show him the exhibitions.—Yours, ets., RICHARD COTTRELL, Convener, Christchurch Junior Chamber German Week Committee. August 24, 1968.
