RANDOM REMINDER
THE PROMISCUOUS SET
Lots of things happen at the seaside, but it is most unfair to blame South Brighton for everything that has that particular suburb as its setting. Take the case of Uncle Bert. We have it, on very good authority, that this gentleman, together with bis lawful wedded wife, went to stay the night with some relatives who lived in a little house right on the Esplanade. Here the sea breeze comes ozone-packed, family size, full of pep and invigorating good health, and a regular dose before break-
fast is recommended by most doctors. How was it then that when Uncle Bert rose in the morning, washed himself, combed his hair and went for a Spartan stroll in the bouncing breeze, that he felt queer, as though something terrible had taken possession of him? As he climbed the sandhills he did not feel himself at all. The sun-tipped, wind-teased waves and circling gulls meant nothing to him; so he strolled dismally back. His wife met him on the garden path and. seeing his
distress, asked what was troubling him. He could not speak to her; just a stumbling mumble escaped his frightened lips. It was a weird feeling, as though part of him were missing. He was not in pain, but when, in despair, he clenched his teeth, his whole head felt funny.
Just then an embarrassed hostess appeared in the doorway and handed him a willow-pattern cup containing one set of dentures. From behind a shielding hand she announced that she was afraid Uncle Bert was wearing her teeth.
