Attractive Game To Linwood
LINWOOD 8: T. McAllister, a try: P. Jellyman. a conversion and a penalty. SYDENHAM S: C. G. King, a try: A. J. Howard, a conversion. Appreciative of the fine conditions and the firm, dry state of Lancaster Park Oval. Linwood and Sydenham played at-
tractive Rugby. Both forward and back Linwood tiad the edge on its opponent, but Sydenham’s tenacious defence and its ability to counter-attack always kept it in the game.
The Linwood backs played adventurously; although their many dummy moves had little success they constantly tested the defence.
The inside back combination, B. Richards. N. Stokes, and K. Gimblett, handled well and ran strongly, and D. Cocks was a major attacking force. Sydenham played a more orthodox game. The kick-ahead proved for them a potent attacking weapon, and several times the opposition was scrambling on defence. M. G. Pepper was an able half-back. T. J Bradbury an elusive fiveeighths. and G. A. Hay ran strongly on the wing.
Both sets of forwards concentrated their efforts on securing the ball for their backs, but were still able to make their contribution in the open. Currie and T. McAllister were prominent for Linwood. For Sydenham. R. H. Doell was in everything, and the hooker. King, showed speed in the loose.
Referee: Mr J. R. Milnes.
