Country Basketball Association Proposed
A proposal to form a Canterbury Country Basketball Association—to comprise the seven sub-associations affiliated with the Canterbury association —was put before a meeting of the North Canterbury Basketball Sub-Association on Monday evening.
At present, the only organls-. ation among sub-associations is an annual meeting of two delegates from each, the president of the Canterbury association being chairman. Putting forward a proposed constitution for a new association, Mr H. A. Connell (Rangiora High School Ex-pupils’ Club) said it was time that country subassociations governed themselves. Combined, they were now big enough for this. “When a matter was referred to Canterbury to decide just recently, they told us that the sub-associations should settle it for themselves,’’ he said.
“We’re almost managing our own affairs now.’’
The proposal provides for two delegates from each aub-atsocla-
tion. It was suggested that the new association could become affiliated directly- to the New Zealand association, and possibly have a delegate to the Canterbury Basketball Association.
Sub-associations involved In the Canterbury country area are: Banks Peninsula, Ellesmere Hurunui, Lincoln, Malvern, North Canterbury, and Kaikoura, which joined this year. Copies of the proposed constitution and rules of the suggested association will be considered by North Canterbury clubs. If they agree, the matter will then be referred to the other sub-associations and the Canterbury association, and, eventually, the New Zealand association.
Crayfish From Chathams.— The Holmdale arrived at Lyttelton on Tuesday morning with 5012 cartons of crayfish tails, some wool and some general cargo for discharge.
