League final

JJAPANUI and Linwood, which will meet in the grand final of the 1968 Canterbury Rugby league club championship at the Show Grounds this afternoon, are the only clubs to have shared a championship since the code was inaugurated in Canterbury in 1913. The teams tied for the championship in 1960, before the present system of playing-off for the title was introduced. Linwood was one of the original senior teams in 1913 and has played in the grade in every season since with the exception of 1916, when no senior football was played, and between 1927 and 1929. It won the championship outright in 1932, 1938, 1951, 1961 and 1963. The champion team in 1957 and 1959, Papanui first came into senior football in 1920 as Waimairi. A senior club from 1925 until 1930, between 1935 and 1941 and continuously from 1947, Papanui has played under its present name for the last 21 years. Although it has enjoyed little success in the last few seasons, Sydenham still holds the records of most championship wins (17), the most in succession (six between 1913 and 1919) and has been the only club to have a senior team each season since 1913. Hornby has won 11 titles and Sydenham (1953-1956) and Hornby (1964-1967) have won four successive premierships.
