‘Airports Bad
Sites’
(NZ. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Aug. 20.
One of the worst places at which a meteorological office could be stationed was an airport, and it was unfortunate that this was where most were sited, Mr W. K. Kennedy, of the University of Canterbury, said at the national electronics conference in Auckland today. He said airports were one of the worst environments imaginable for receiving lowlevel signals, particularly when these bordered the aircraft communication band. There was also a high noise level at airports. The most obvious solution was to site the antenna at a remote location but to maintain control and take readings at the meteorological office.
