Four Australian records, two by the West Australian butterfly swimmer, Miss L. McClements. were set in the Australian Olympic swimming team’s first time trials. Miss McClements took o.7sec off Miss P. Gray’s 100 metres time, and o.3sec off Miss E. Takahashi’s 200 metre record. In the breaststroke, Miss J. Playfair covered 200 metres in 2min 46.55ec, which was o.9sec inside the record. Miss K. Mores, a Sydney freestyler, warmed up for her 440 yd record by taking twotenths of a second off Miss D. Fraser’s Queensland 200 metres time. Five minutes later the schoolgirl’s time of 4min 37.8 sec was made without pressure from her rivals. It was 2.lsec inside her own record, and a full second faster than Miss A. Wainwright’s record.
