LITERARY GRANTS
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 20. Five grants from the State Literary Fund to help publishers and writers were announced today by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath). P.E.N. will receive $248 to subsidise the Hubert Church award for prose and the Jessie Mackay award for poetry. Blackwood and Janet Paul, Ltd, of Hamilton, will receive $BOO to help publish “A Bishop and his Family,” and the Caxton Press, Christchurch, will receive $2OO to help publish “Shadowshow,” by Ruth Dallas.
Mate Books will receive $l5O to help publish the next issue of “Mate,” a literary, periodical. Miss June Opie will receive $5OO to help her write a novel.
