N.Z. Golf Rep. Dies

DUNEDIN.
A former Otago and New Zealand golf representative, Mr A. Gibbs, died in Dunedin yesterday, aged 53. He competed in several New Zealand championships and in 1953, with R. Timms, won the open and amateur titles at Balmacewen.
A year later, he captained the New Zealand team in the Commonwealth tournament in Britain. He won the Otago provincial title twice.

MR B. A. SEWARD
An Englishman who gave more than 50 years’ service to the scout movement, part of it in New Zealand, has died in Somerset. He was Mr Bertram Arthur Seward, who was in charge of New Zealand scouters’ training courses about 1921-22. Mr Seward, who was 80, was born in Sussex. During World War I he served in the Royal Army Medical Corps, was mentioned in dispatches and was awarded the Military Medal.
In 1920 Mr Seward came to New Zealand where he was in charge of a small school near Hokitika and of the local scout troop. In 1926 Mr Seward returned to England and taught in Acton and Cardiff. He retired to live in Wiveliscombe where he was scoutmaster of the local troop from 1948 to 1965. Mr Seward was active in the scout movement from 1911. He arranged training courses in France in World War I and many of his trainees later became scouters in England. In 1961 he was awarded the Silver Wolf badge of the Scouts’ Association on completion of 50 years’ service.
Coat Stolen.—The theft of a suede coat, valued at $7O, from the club house of the Russley Golf Club, was reported to the police yesterday.
