N.Z. Exhibit At Fancy Food Show
Chinese gooseberries and lamb stole the show in the New Zealand Government exhibit at the national fancy food and confection show in New York, according to the Minister of Agriculture and Science (Mr Taiboys).
Mr Taiboys said at the opening of the annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Agricultural Science at Lincoln yesterday that reports of the reaction to the New Zealand exhibit kt this show indicated that there were opportunities for those who were prepared to venture.
Some 24 New Zealand manufacturers of processed foods had taken part in the show which had been aimed at the trade only. ; “Fortunately, it coincided i with the short season in
which fresh Chinese gooseberries, or ‘Kiwi fruit,’ are available in North America,” said Mr Taiboys, “and apparently Kiwi fruit and lamb, which,' with the co-operation of the Meat Board, was served from two big rotisseries, were the two big attractions which brought buyers to the exhibit.
“The preliminary report makes particular mention of the interest shown in preserved Kiwi fruit and other preserved fruits, canned smoked eels, instant beef tea and freeze dried products," he said.
