PRAYER DAY
More Taking Part
One of the most exciting aspects of the World Day of Prayer service in New Zealand was the growing participation of denominations not within the National Council of Churches, particularly Roman Catholics, says the annual report of the N.C.C. women’s committee.
In many cases they took part in leading the service, and in nine instances a Roman Catholic church was the meeting place. Catholics attended 125 services and numbers were often more than doubled by their participation, reports the chairman (Mrs K. A. Hamilton). There was a move to hold services in hospitals or homes. Gatherings in cities were not meeting the need as before and the women’s committee might find it better to explore ways of taking the service to, places of work, hospitals, and schools, she said. Offerings this year were used for two projects of InterChurch Aid—to help Action for Food Production in India, and the emergency situation among Middle East war victims; the work of the British and Foreign Bible Society in Indonesia; and the usual contribution to the East Asia Christian Conference towards the Asian Churchwomen’s Conference.
