MERIVALE-PAPANUI 24: Tries by M. Tuuta (3), L. McCaughan, R. Eddy, D. Burnie. McCaughan converted three of them.
BELFAST 3: R. Inwood a goal from a penalty. A magnificent second-half rally gave Merivale-Papanui a convincing win over Belfast at Belfast. In the first half, Belfast looked the better team and Merivale-Papanui was rather fortunate to hold it to 3-all at half-time.
In the second spell, MerivalePapanui was the only team in the game. Tries came regularly and the Belfast defence collapsed. The Merivale-Papanui No. 8, Tuuta, played an outstanding game, scoring three fine tries. In the backs, McCaughan also had a good game
