GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants for either post should hold the New Zealand Certificate in Engineering or Radio Technician Certificate with supplementary certificates or similar qualifications such as those provided by the City and Guilds of London Institute. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Post (a) (i) The maintenance and overhaul of electronic multiplexing and transmission equipment (both transistorised and valved) in a base workshop in Suva. (ii) Making pre-installation and acceptance tests of transmission equipment away from base. Post (b) (i) Installation and maintenance of Telephone Exchange and Radio Station power equipment including Diesel generating plant. Electronic control gear up to 125KVA, large lead-acid battery installations and automatic float chargers. A knowledge of air conditioning plant would be an advantage. In both bases the officer appointed will be expected to take an active interest in the training of junior staff.
