OBITUARY Mr G. G. Smith
Mr George Gage Smith, who died recently at the age of 83, was an old identity of the Broadfield district. He was a member of a family which had taken up land when the district was first surveyed into farming units. Mr Smith was regarded as a most successful farmer, having started with 50 acres in his early twenties, and added to his holding with the purchase of four adjacent properties. He retired from active farming in 1961. Mr Smith was not associated in an official capacity with any farming or local organisations, apart from the Broadfield School, of which he was a committee member for a long period. He is survived by three sons and three daughters.
