PRICE POLICY
No Changes Planned (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August $. The Government did not intend to alter the present procedures for protecting consumers from unjustifiable increases in prices, said the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall). If present proceuures did not reasonably protect consumers they would be strengthened, but the Government would not return to price control of all goods and services, he said in Parliament, replying to Mr W. W. Freer (Lab., Mount Albert).
Mr Marshall said the Government would generally continue to rely on competition to restrain prices. “Direct price control will, however, be maintained in those fields where it is clearly necessary,” said Mr Marshall.
