Quieter Roads

Sir, —Thank you for your editorial on this subject. I am utterly thankful that this noise problem is at last going to be tackled. Noisy exhausts, much through traffic, and some motorists who seem to take delight in driving with an excessive din, have caused us considerable trouble where we live. A poor sleeper, I have became a victim of this sleeplessness problem since we lived here, but my husband, once a heavy sleeper, is now becoming angered by his repeatedly being awakened throughout the night by inconsiderate drivers. We are now searching for a home in a quieter street, although we like our home and our neighbourhood; but now we are growing older we feel health is more important. I am glad the Minister of Transport, Mr Gordon, is following in Britain’s Mrs Castle’s footsteps.— Yours, etc., BETHUNE. August 8, 1968.
