ANNIVERSARY MARKED
The sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Fisher Body division of General Motors w-as marked in the United States last month. The United States Congress passed a resolution paying tribute to the company’s work during the last 60 years, and declared July 22, 1968, as “Fisher Body Day." The firm was established in Detroit in 1908 as an independent company, and since then the “Body by Fisher” trademark has appeared on more than 100 million car bodies. During its history the company has pioneered many advances in car body design and construction. The company eventually became part of General Motors, and now employs more than 95,000 persons at 34 different plants. During 1967, the company’s contributions to local economies by way of local purchases and payrolls amounted to $13,000 million.
