Brilliant Run At Hastings
"The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. A brilliant half mile by the first-day winner. Fairlie Grove, was one of the outstanding features of yesterday morning's track work at Hastings, when horses engaged at the Dannevirke Hunt races tomorrow had their final trials.
The plough and the course proper offered excellent going.
Astral Blue (J. T. Anderson) worked alone over six furlongs in imin 19 3-ssec, the last three in 39 3-ssec. A disappointment on the first day he has done well during the week.
Watchet (A. T. Jones) worked with Squall (D. J. Wlthington) and they took imin 18 l-ssec for six furlongs, the last three in 39 l-ssec.
Fairlie Grove (Mrs Gregory) a most impressive winner the first day, took 49sec for half a mile, the last three furlongs in 36 3-5.
Matawera (M. Donoghue) was sent over seven furlongs, the last six taking Imin 20 2-ssec and the last three in 39 4*ssec.
Terramycin (I. D. Lawson) and Gayllan (C. H. Mackie) were paired for seven furlongs in Imin 35 3-ssec, the last three in 40 3-ssec. They impressed as being very fit for their races in the Ashcott and Highgate Handicaps respectively. John Derry (R. Mirltana) and False Problem (R. Saxon) were clear of Corena’s Pride (C. McGovern) on completion of seven furlongs in Imin 34sec, the last three in 40 Msec. This was a good gallop. John Derry has been disappointing but there is no doubt about his fitness.
