OBITUARY Mr F. Gilligan

Mr Frederick Ernest Gilligan, who died recently at the age of 71, was well-known In Southland racing circles as the breeder at Macedoine, one of the South Island’s top stayers of her time. Macedoine won the Wyndham Cup as a three-Vear-old in the hands of L. J. Ellis and the next year, in the 1943-44 season, the Salmagundi mare won the Invercargill Gold Cup and the Wellington Racing Club Handicap. She was later sold to India. Mr Gilligan, a former general carrier and hotel proprietor, raced Black Bard and Doubleack. and also bred Pride of Mossburn, a half-brother by Siegfried to Macedoine.
