PLANS FOR OPERAS
Te Wiata In ‘Il Seraglio’ (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 8. The New Zealand Opera Company would stage “11 Seraglio” and “Fidelio” as well as a Christmas attraction this year, the chairman of the company’s board of directors (Mr F. Turnovsky) said today These productions had been made possible by the Government’s grant of $lOO,OOO to the Queen Elizabeth Arts Council, Mr Turnovsky said. “11 Seraglio” by Mozart, will star New Zealand bass, Inia Te Wiata. It will be presented in Christchurch and Wellington in mid-September and early October. Beethoven’s “Fidelio” will mark the opening of the company's own intimate theatre, which will be completed in the next two or three weeks.
