Canadian Salmon Pack Appears Promising

(By Our Grocery Reporter) Because of the shortage of Japanese salmon this season importers will be relying on Canada for their requirements. Latest reports from Canada appear promising. There has been an excellent catch of sockeye, the

largest pack at this stage of the runs for many years. The red variety has completed its run and the catch is very poor. Heavy runs and very large catches of the pink variety have been reported. The price is likely to be higher because of the poor catch in Japan. The quality is excellent and described as quite a bit better than the choice salmon last year. If the expected pack of 2,000,000 cartons eventuates, selling pressure could develop.

Clng.r Marmalade. The manufacturers of Blue Bonnet jams, Butland Industries. Ltd, have announced a new product, ginger marmalade. This is the first produced in New Zealand. It will be sold in glass jars, one 6oz with a suggested retail price of 22c and the other 15oz with a suggested retail price of 40c.

New Gravy Mix. — Cerebos Foods has announced a new gravy mix under the brand name of Gravox. There are two types, rich brown for beef, lamb and other red meats, and light brown for poultry, pork, veal and white meats. Gravox was established in Australia in 1901. Packed in Boz packets both types of this product have a suggested retail price of 23c.

New Rack. — The manufacturers of Persil have announced a new improved pack for their product. New Persil, which will be in a blue pack, now has 15 per cent more whitening strength than any other product of this type on the New Zealand market, according to the manu-

tacturers. The retail prices are unchanged. Price Reductions.— The distributors ot Royalty sugar cubes. Salmond and Spraggon, Ltd, have announced a price reduction from 35c to a suggested retail price of 30c. The manufacturers of Oak boysenberries have also announced a reduction In the price of their product from 41c to 39c.
