TREAD WEAR
How worn must a tyre be bofore it should be replaced or retreaded? Although it is now illegal in Britain to drive on tyres with less than Imm of tread, tyre experts say that tyres should be changed as soon as the tread depth has been reduced to 2mm, or about one-sixteenth of an inch.
If the tread is permitted to wear more than this the tyre jmay be safe on a dry road, but on a wet road its grip |on the road surface will fall Ito a dangerous level.
