BEAU SUPREME MAY WIN AT WAIMATE

Beau Supreme should have little difficulty gaining his third successive win for Mr R. C. Idiens, of Christchurch, and his Washdyke trainer, J. C. McKerrow, in the Morven Handicap at Waimate on Monday. After middle-distance wins at Washdyke and Oamaru at his last two starts Beau Supreme will be switching back to a mile and 150 yards in the main flat race and second leg of the Waimate Hunt Club’s T.A.B. double. J. C. McKerrow was a little uncertain about Beau Supreme’s immediate programme after his impressive Oamaru Winter Cup victory last Monday. At the time he said that the four-year-old might have one more race before contesting the main flat races at the Grand National meeting next month and hinted that it might b? at the South Canterbury Hunt meeting next Monday week. But obviously a favourable handicap—he is only up 5 lb on last Monday’s weight—and a small field could have Influenced a change of that plan. The prospect of Beau Supreme putting another.win on record looks too good to miss. The form runners among

Beau Supreme’s rivals have all shown their best form as sprinters. The Gore-trained Red Sash gained an easy win over six furlongs at Washdyke recently and Ronrico, from Washdyke, improved on a lengthy string of minor placings by chasing Red Sash home. Mister Bud and Talic are both last-start form runners from Riccarton stables. The former, a sprint winner at Amberley in May, ran fourth in the corresponding event at Ashburton last month. Talic raised hopes of an early success with a powerful late run for fourth in , the open sprint at Washdyke last Wednesday week. Of the others Blue Amber makes most appeal. She finished fourth in two starts against the open stayers at the South Canterbury meeting. Winning Form If winning form proves the best form in the Redcliff Hack Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double, Bevlyn, Queen’s Speech and 'Gold Wood should battle it out. Bevlyn will be trying to improve a promising record for her Washdyke owner, trainer, Mr N. Clark, under top-weight of 8-7. She has two wins close up on her record. The most recent of those was among the milers at Oamaru last month.

Queen’s Speech won the hack mile at Oamaru last Monday with an impressive late run and Gold Wood was successful over a mile and 35 yards at Washdyke last Wednesday week. Gone Astray, Thibell and Llanston should also have solid backing. Gone Astray was narrowly beaten by Lord Macquario in the hack sprint at Washdyke last Wednesday week. Thibell was the best behind Our Wyn in the event for hack stayers and Llanston chased Queen’s Speech home in the hack mile at Oamaru last Monday.
