Gay Marilyn Sprint Pick

“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Roganne, Robert Earl, Sterling Lad and Gay Marilyn stand out as the best bets at Matamata today. Roganne and Gay Marilyn are in the T.A.B. double. It will come as a great surprise if they finish out of a place. Robert Earl looks head and shoulders above his rivals in the Okauia Steeplechase, and Sterling Lad is expected to leave maiden ranks in the Tower Maiden. Roganne is desperately trying to regain winning form in the Pioneers’ Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double. His last win was at Te Rapa in October. If he fails today his prospects of collecting another handicap this winter are unlikely. Taken all round his rivals today are not too strong. Roganne’s last win was in the Labour Day Handicap, a mile and three furlongs, over Court Rapid and Tatua. Roganne’s main opponents appear likely to be Topsil, Papeete, Sunset Fair, and Tom Jones Topsil, a member of ownertrainer, I. Robinson’s Matangi stable, will be trying for her fourth win on end. At her last start she ran away with the honours over a mile and a quarter at Wanganui. If Sunset Fair is successful, it would complete a great week for his trainer, F. R. Beguely of Matamata. On Wednesday, Beguely won the Parliamentary Handicap with Midnight Kiss. Today he has Midnight Kiss engaged in the Winter Oats which is timed to be run about 20 minutes before the Pioneers’ Handicap. Gay Marilyn at her first attempt in open company,

finished gamely for second behind Chief Warrior at Avondale last Saturday. Her form beforehand in hack and intermediate class had been first-class. Wairere Lass and Commendable. two local gallopers and Count Two might be her toughest rivals. The weather Is fine and the track will be heavy.
