Overseas Shares Rescue Reflective Market

Rises just shaded falls on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, even though the New Zealand list—especially leading shares—was easier. The market undertone is steady and the mood appears reflective.

Turn-overs were variable, but for the whole country, slightly above average. The

range of trading was narrower, and price movements small. N.Z. Petroleum made another 20c. Norvic put on 10c, to 410 c. New Zealand Refrigerating recovered another 2c. National Insurance rose 10c to 380 c in North Island sales,

but South British and New Zealand Insurance could not hold all of Wednesday's gains and lost 3c and 4c respectively. Breweries were easier, and Fletcher, N.Z. Forest Products and Wright, Stephenson were other leaders which declined.
