MARKETING OF WOOL

Minister Urges Change (N.Z. Prost Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. July 9. Support for adoption of the Wool Marketing Study Group’s report was expressed by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) at the official opening of the Massey Wool Association's twentyfirst conference. Through a substitute speaker, Mr W. B. Tennent, he said that while some adjustments to the proposed national wool marketing authority could be expected, the wool industry would have to move with the times. He said that the example set by the dairy industry, with its direct communication between producer and consumer, should be followed by the wool industry. Performance recording, ;wool-preparation standards, wool-classing methods and direct selling by sample were aspects of the industry which would have to be developed to meet the synthetics challenge. While the Government would not enforce change, it encouraged further argument on the proposals of the Wool Study Group. Much of its recommendations were not known by most farmers, he said.
