Visit To N.Z.

A helicopter gunship of the type used in Vietnam will be seen in Christchurch on July 26. It is the Bell Huey-Cobra whiph is on a demonstration tour of Pacific countries sponsored by the Bell Helicopter Company in association with the governments of the United States and New Zealand. The machine will give handling demonstrations at the R.N.Z.A.F. base, Wigram, and at Burnham Military Camp. The only demonstration of the Cobra's fire power will be given before officials of the Ministry, of Defence at Waiouru on July 24. The machine's weapons are a six-barrel 7.62 mm. gun and a 40mm. grenade launcher fitted into the belly, and external 76 2.75 in rockets. The Cobra, which was first flown in September, 1965, is relatively small. It carries a crew of two—a pilot and a forward gunner.

The helicopter is expected to arrive at Whenuapai in a United States Air Force Globemaster on July 20. After its display at Waiouru it will go to Wellington and then Christchurch.
