DESIGNERS’ CHARGES

The Christchurch dress designer, Mr Gray Scott-Roberts, was reported in an interview printed yesterday to have replied “But of course," when asked if he adjusted his prices to suit financial status.

Amplifying this reply yesterday Mr Scott-Roberts said that if he was making a garment for a very wealthy woman who wanted intricate sewing and expensive material, he would charge more than for a garment of simpler design and cheaper material. His prices were governed by the customer’s requirements.

When he said he suited his prices to the customer’s financial status he was referring to an isolated case of a millionairess in London—just part of a conversation which was not reported in full. It was not intended to reflect his general policy where pricing was concerned.
