Nurse Maude Has Financial Loss

This year, the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association had shown a record deficiency of just over $17,000, an increase of $ll,OOO on last year’s loss, the deputy chairman (Mr R. G. Compton) said at the annual meeting yesterday.

The main deficits were 327,488 in the district nursing and 33982 in the home aid services. Fortunately, these tad been offset considerably by bequests of almost $13,000. It appeared that there was going to be a substantially greater deficiency than in 1967-68, but steps were being taken to minimise this as far as possible, Mr Compton said. The board had arranged for the finance committee to consider ways of reducing the heavy deficits on the domiciliary services, which had been caused by their expansion, and by increased nursing salaries.

The organisation was now very big and the committee had already taken steps to have it incorporated by private Act of Parliament This was felt to be desirable because of the great expansion of the association’s work and assets during recent years and to facilitate dealing with financial and property matters. At the end of March, the association employed 341 people, he said. During the year, the board had bought a house property backing its Memorial Hospital for Women. It was being used as a residence for the charge sister but would be used later for extension of the hospital. Members of the board were re-elected at the meeting. They are: Messrs L. D. Cotterill (chairman)', R. G. Compton (deputy-chairman), H. B. Anderson, E. T. Beaven, G. N. Francis, N. F. Greenslade, S. E. Mair, J. B. Hay, Turner Smith, Dr W. I. Paterson, Mrs J. Ferrier, Miss C. Pratt and Miss B. Webb. The treasurer is Mr Compton and the secretary is Mr C. B. P. Johnstone.
