‘RISE NOT JUSTIFIED’

The Associated Chambers of I Commerce, in ■ statement said that the joint com- ; mittee of past and preI sent State employees investigating superannuation allowances would not be justified in singling out retired State employees for specie! i treatment to compensate for i changes in the cost of living. The Public Service superannuitant was already pro- ; vided for in a more generous I measure than were the great majority of his contemporary i salary and wage earners, and i there was no contractual or moral responsibility on the public as employers to do more for him than was I already being done, the statement said. To confer an additional gratuitous benefit on this section of people alone would be unwarranted.
