Fine Victory In Table Tennis

The new Canterbury women’s singles champion, Mrs T. May (Selwyn II), continued her excellent form to beat W. T. Scott (Selwyn I) in three games during the tenth round of the A grade inter-club table tennis competitions last evening. Scott, a semi-fihalist in the men’s singles, never settled down in the first game but fought back to take the second, 24-22. Mrs May demonstrated her superiority in the third, to win 21-17. V. N. Brightwell (Selwyn I) had an easy evening. He played six garner in singles matches and on only one occasion did his opponent get more than 10 points. R. Sanderson (Avonside II) showed some of his form of past seasons when he took the Canterbury representative, M. R. Spinks (Boon Hay), to three games. Sanderson hit well to win the second, 22-20, but Spinks's greater consistency gave him final victory. Linwood II played better than previously this season to beat Wallabies, 8-4. It was expected that Wallabies would provide much tougher competition. Points after 10 rounds are: Hoon Hay and Riccarton 18, Avonside I and Selwyn I 16.
