Leading Gubs To Meet In Badminton

The stage was set in the sixth round of the inter-club badminton matches last evening for an exciting final round before the eight teams are split into two sections. The leaders, Railway I and Christchurch, will play each other, and Knox will meet Canterbury I for the last place in the top section. Last evening, Knox was narrowly beaten by Mairehau and the final score was in doubt until the last matches, the combined doubles, were completed. P. V. Boatwood and Miss S. Dench lost to the Knox pair, E. Ogier and Miss S. Field. At the bottom of the points tabla University and Railway II had an exciting match. As expected, G. Ford and Hamid Bugo won their singles matches for University, but J. Findlay and M. Berry combined well and defeated them in the doubles. University’s First Point The teams were lever for the final two matches, 3-3. In a three-game match, Findlay and Mrs Duckmanton came from behind, to win, 7-15, 15-12, 17-18. It was scarcely tess exciting in the other combined match. Capitalising on the nervous mistakes of Mrs A. Smith and Berry Hamid Bugo and Miss P. Woolhouse won the first game. University played intently in the second and won, giving University their first point in the competition.
