Tenders To Re Called

Tenders for the construction of the United States satellite tracking station near Lake Tekapo will be called by the week-end. The estimated cost of the construction will be about $250,000. Details of the contract will be advertised in the four main centres by the United States Navy acting on behalf of the United States Air Force. It is expected that construction work will begin on the site in October. The time clause for the completion of the job has not been agreed on. The tracking station will have four buildings all constructed of permanent materials.

The biggest, 40ft by 100 ft, will house the Baker-Nunn camera. The other three will be smaller and serve only as auxiliaries to the main building. _ The camera and the scientific equipment, which will be Installed in the main building, will be brought to New Zealand by the United States Air Force team which will man the station.
