Heathcote County

Sir,—it is to be hoped that those who were so quick to criticise and condemn the Heathcote County Council 16 months ago will be as quickly off the mark to praise it now. Any reduction in rates, however small, is most acceptable and now I prefer to be a county ratepayer with a 3.6 per cent decrease in sight than a city dweller with a 2.36 per cent increase to meet. Councillors and their new county clerk have acted most creditably over what has been a difficult and trying period and should now be congratulated for what must surely be a vote of confidence in the future. Let the petty jealousies stop and repel any moves by the city towards amalgamation.—Yours, etc., L. R. BLOXHAM. July 9, 1968. Paper Bags For
