BY LUXURY LINER TO COLOGNE CATHEDRAL.—Traffic is brisk on the Rhine, Germany’s longest and Europe’s busiest river. In the summer months white-painted passenger ships cruise from town to town. As well as the four luxury cruisers Europa (shown at top, berthed at Cologne), Helvetia, Nederland, and France, there are a number of smaller white-painted steamers that ply upstream and downstream every day (shown at bottom near Boppard). Even the fortnightly winter trips along the length of the Rhine are always fully booked.
