The results of this programme and of similar work at other Antarctic stations were necessary for studying phenomena peculiar to the Antarctic region and for the solution of problems requiring observations throughout the world, he said. D.S.I.R. scientists will coptinue their glaelological studies of the McMurdo ice shelf and will collect samples for nuclear fallout investigations between New Zealand and the South Pole. Oceanographic work by the D.S.I.R. and Victoria University will be undertaken on H.M.N.Z.S. Endeavour during her re-supply voyages to Antarctica and during an oceanographic cruise later this year. Men and supplies will be transported by the Royal New Zealand Navy, the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and the United States Navy.
