Alterations In Minimum Prices For Meat

Several changes have been made in the minimum prices for export meat in the year ending September 30, next year. The minimum prices for the baric grades of export meat have been announced by the chairman of the Meat Export Prices Committee (Mr P. W. Smallfield). For boner cattle the rates have been increased 2c per lb, for chilled beef and ox

and heifer quarter beef 1.7 c, for quarter cow beef 1.6 c, and for veal sides or quarters 0.3 c. The minimum price for lamb has also been increased 0.5 c per lb. Other prices are unchanged. Since minimum prices were set for the 1967-68 meat export season devaluation has been a factor in meat prices. The new F. 0.8. prices for the basic grades—North Island—are:—

Lamb: Prime, it to 3«lb, 14c per lb tup 0.5 c). Wether mutton: Prime, 4S to SSlb, 7.5 c (no change). Ewe mutton Prime, 49 to SSlb, 5.5 c (no chanse). Chilled beef Ox SSOlb and under, 15c (up 1.7 c). Ox and heifer quarter beef: Good average quality ox, SSOlb and under, 15c (up f.7c). Quarter cow beef: Good average quality, ,4001 b and under, 12c (up I.Sc). Mr Smallfield raid that the schema would be administered on the same lines as in previous seasons, each baric grade of meat in the minimum prices schedule being used as the factor for assessing the deficiency payment applicable to all grades of the relative class of export meat
