Birds Leave Beach

Three dogs on the beach at South Brighton were disturbing thousands of pied oyster catchers, causing the birds to fly across the Estuary to Sumner, said. Mr T. Owen, a beachcomber, of 146 Estuary Road, last evening. “The oyster catchers arrive In their thousands about this time of the year, and gradually spread over the Estuary and up the Avon and Heathcote Rivers 'td nest. “The. dogs are really frightening—they .challenge me when I am on.the beach, and would terrify children. They are disturbing the .oyster catchers, which make a wonderful sight just after sunrise. “I am sure the owners would keep the dogs tied up or enclosed if they realised the birds were being scared,” he said. -
