THE X-RAY APPEARANCE OF THE SUN.—This unusual view of the sun was obtained by a high-flying Aerobee rocket. The circle indicates the extent of the solar disc and shows quite clearly that much of the x-radiation originates in the solar atmosphere at a level well above the visible surface, or photosphere.
