Quiet Opening To Easier Market
The sharemarket opened quietly on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, and values continued last week’s easier trend. However, leaders recovered a little, and the overseas list was firm.
B.H.P. made 30c to 2580 c, and C.S.R. added another 5c to sell at 650 c. New Zealand Petroleum had the best gain among New Zealand shares, with a rise of 10c to 320 c. New Zealand Breweries made the best recovery among leaders, and put on sc, to 142 c. Dominion Breweries, Fletcher, New Zealand Refrigerating, Rothmans and U.E.B. reversed last week’s trend. N.Z. Forest Products re-
covered another 2c, to 310 c. Apart from New Zealand Refrigerating, frozen meats were easier. Waitaki had the biggest loss in the list: 10c to 173 c. Southland and Gear also declined. Insurances were also weaker, with losses by New Zealand and South British. Andrews and Beaven, Charles Begg, 1.C.1.N.Z., J. Wattie Canneries, and Motor Specialties were other leaders which lost ground.
