BILLIARDS FINAL
Yesberg And Simons T. R. Yesberg and E J. Simons will contest the Canterbury billiards title again, at the Kalapoi Workingmen's Club at 7.30 this evening. Simons scraped through his semi-final, against R. O’Callaghan at the Christchurch Workingmen’s Club, last evening. Behind all the way—lBs down in fact, at the halfway mark of 1J hours—Simons completed a 90 break 3min from the end to go 13 ahead. Yesberg was in command all the way against B. Kirkness. who is making a come-back after three years. Results, with the best breaks in parentheses, were: Simons 670 (90. 54, 50) beat O’Callaghan 657 (60, 50); Yesberg 771 (89, 69) beat Kirkness 337.
In the quarter-finals. Kirkness beat D. Collie by only two points, and Yesberg scraped home against R. Franks. H. Mason held a good lead on Simons with time running out, and if he had played a little more safely, could have caused the upset of the tournament. Results of the quarter-finals were: Simons 538 (best break 58), Mason 483 (56); O’Callaghan 520, J. Linton 289; Kirkness 347, Collie 345 (56, 50): Yesberg 394, Franks 357.
