ACTION OVER POLLUTION

Ways in which citizens can “assist in cleaning up the winter air in our city” are suggested in a statement issued by the president of the Christchurch Clean Air Society (Mr L R. Densem) His proposals:— “Inform your Member of Parliament by telephone or by letter of your concern, and ask him to take the matter up with the Minister of Health

“Write or telephone a member of your local council, and ask him to raise the matter at a council meeting.

“Join as a member of the Chi 'stchurch branch of the Nev Zealand Clean Air Society. The secretary is Mr C R Belcher. 198 Selwyn Street.” Mr Densem said that fol lowing one of the worst days of air pollution, on June 10, the society had called a meet ing of interested bodies. Although the Government had been told of the meet ing’s unanimous decisions calling for action on a

national clean air act, and on an amendment to the Health Act, the same inaction and apathy could be expected as had been shown for many years. By adopting his suggestions, Mr Densem said,, action might be expedited.
