TUATARAS RETURNED

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) SYDNEY, July 4. The 14 tuataras stolen from Sydney University last weekend were Returned today safe and unharmed. The police say the reptiles were taken by children who kept them until last night, when they took them to a suburban pet shop in La Perouse, near Botany Bay, about eight miles from the university. “They had been looking after them, but they did not know how valuable they were and got a bit scared at all the publicity,” a police spokesman said, adding that no charges would be preferred. Professor Charles Birch, head of the school of biological sciences at the university, said today: “The reptiles appear none the worse for their adventure.”
