AID FOR HANOI
Russian Pledge (N.Z. P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) MOSCOW, July 5 The Soviet Union yesterday pledged new military and economic assistance to North Vietnam, but puzzled obser vers by withholding details. After 10 days of talks be tween Hanoi’s top foreign aid negotiator and Kremlin leaders, an announcement issued by the official Tass news agency said Russia “has promoted and will promote the further strengthening of the defence potential of the fraternal Democratic Republic of (North) Vietnam”.
But it did not say if the agreement was the renewal of last year’s military and economic aid pact to cover 1968 or an additional protocol boosting deliveries during the rest of this year.
Observers said it was probably the 1969 agreement, although there was no confirmation available from Soviet or North Vietnamese sources
Patients Well.—The world’s seven surviving heart transplant patients—six men and one woman—were today all reported doing well in their sterilised hospital rooms, cut off from normal contact with their friends and families.— London, July 5.
