Bus Shelters

Sir,—lt takes five years to place some shelters in some places. In others they disappear, not to return. Hospitals fill through sickness caused by chills and soaking of passengers waiting in the Square and elsewhere for transport homeward in bad weather. Overhead protection from rain, though puddled underfoot, served many at the Bank corner during its building. Now wind and sleet wage war on citizens' health. Motoring councillors and Transport Board members travel in comfort. They do not understand discomfort caused by lack of bus shelters. A lot of ageing folk will be dead before shelters materialise at “Broadways” corner along to Warner’s. No seats or even a bar to rest heavy shopping bags or tired backs. Where are women councillors to speak for Christchurch women?—Yours, etc., LONG PATIENCE. July 4, 1968.
