Broadcasting Account

Sir,—No-one is enduring the extortion Varian J. Wilson complains of. Selective viewing on an average of one hour daily at 4 cents, the daily charge for the lot, would be a good return for today’s money. Radio at fourfifths of a cent a day is fair enough. Splitting the $l5 into licence fee for the corporation and entertainment tax for the State may one day be possible. At present reserves are required for the future. After Labour has thrown out this Government, as Mr Kirk has prophesied, it will finance selection from two channels. We are then to see, instead or just hearing, parliamentary debate. Time enough then to agitate for a reduction. It is unlikely that a Mrs Barbara Castle will turn up, but those feeling compelled to get their N.Z.B.C. pound of flesh will probably endure further agony in their ailment.— Yours, etc., A. B. CEDARIAN. July 5, 1968.
