Jumping Race Investigation (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. A committee to investigate all aspects of jumping races has been set up by the president of the New Zealand Racing Conference (Mr R. A. Whyte) and will meet in Hastings on Friday, June 28. While debate has flared recently over steeplechase fences and their sizes, a decline in the number of jumping horses has concerned the racing administration for a good deal longer. Almost a year ago, at the 1967 annual meeting of the racing conference, Mr Whyte said he was ■ concerned at the decline, terming jumping events the "backbone of our winter racing programme.” In his address he proposed the formation of a committee of experienced enthusiasts to make recommendations to the executive committee. The committee is: Messrs W. J. Tims, A. W. Lupton, W. W. Sherratt, D. C. Gould, E. Ropiha, E. Temperton, J. S. McKay, P. J. Reid, J. A. Poulsen, H. H. Smith, R. A. Whyte, A. R. Algie, and Miss E. F. White.
The committee is broadly representative of jumping interests and its members share a good deal of practical experience in this field.
