SHORTHORN SALE
Poor Values Realised “The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH, May 15. A sparse bench of buyers, little South Island competition, and a shortage of big cattle meant few sales today at the national beef Shorthorn female sale at Feilding. Of the 28 beasts catalogued —mostly from Hawke’s Bay--13 were withdrawn or passed in at less than $l5O, the buyers’ limit in many cases. The top price of S3CO for show was for a white heifer Tahuna Duchess Cynthia. It was poor value. No South Island buyers made purchases, A. J. Marr from Taumarunui providing the strength of the buying. The average price was $153.30, the total realisation was $2300, 10 mated heifers made $l7OO, averaging $l7O, and three mated cows made $395, averaging $131.60. Several passings were made at $2OO and above.
