Competitions End With Concert
A pleasant end to the Christchurch competitions was provided on Saturday evening with a demonstration concert at the Shirley Boys’ High School hall. The competitions lasted for one week,, with 1000 competitors taking part in about 3000 events.
The concert programme was selected from items by winners of cups, scholarships and classes, and a large receptive audience was treated to talented displays by young artists.
The competitions had given the Christchurch Competitions Society “a tremendous lift along,” said the patron (Mr H. Cordery,. They provided a tremendous contribution to a way of life in that they helped young people to improve themselves in culture and in the arts when there were so many
ways of wasting time, said Mr Cordery. Results of Saturday's contests were:— DANCING Irish Jig.—Under IS years (8): Annette Dugan 1, Lynley Brown 2, K Whitta and Jennifer McKenzie (equal) 3. Under IS years (18): Annette Dugan 1, Sharon Smith 2, Judith Shellock and Lynley Brown (equal) 3. Open (7): Judith Marks 1, Sharon Smith 2. Jenifer Thom son 3. Seann Triubhais.—Eight years and under 10 (15): Karen Duncan 1, Margaret Macleod 2, Christine Rouse 3. Clog Dance.—l2 years and over (waltz) (17): Sharon Smith 1. Robyn Powell 2, Jennifer McKenzie 3.
